On Internet statistics

Because I am on the internet, and because the apps I use offer statistics, I figure I would share some of them, feel free to do the same, if you feel the urge.

The beginning: Finley's birth story, part 2

Part 2

So before I carry on with the birth story, here is a bit of background information for those of you who don't already know.

The beginning: Finley's birth story, part 1

amanda's picture

Two of my closest friends and my cousin are all pregnant. They vary from 13 weeks to 28 weeks to 40 weeks and are all in Joburg, which makes me a little sad because I would love to have seen them during this magical time in their lives. It's also made me the teeniest bit envious and enormously broody. Brad insists that if I remember my pregnancy correctly I would never want to be pregnant again. And he does have a point.

Its Amaymay!

I've been meaning to write down these words for such a long time. I'm forced to keep repeating them in my mind so that I don't forget them, but its time to free up some mental resources and put pen to paper (fingers to keyboard, you know what i mean)!

Dear Finley

Strike 2, Standard Bank

Today Standard Bank makes it back onto this blog. This time it is definately their fault (before the issue was subjectively their responsibility).

Geek Dinner: Happy Habanero

brad's picture

Last night I attended my third Geek Dinner (aka Happy Habanero), which was held at Mel's Village Kitchen in Rondebosch (somewhere on this map). The food was delicious, although I think their vegetable soup had beef stock in it, because my tummy did the funny growling thing that it does when there is actually meat in something that looks like it is just vegetables.

Bug Report: Chocolate Flavour ProNutro

brad's picture

Hi, I have a demonstrably repeatable problem which keeps cropping up at around 7:30am every morning (and at other sporadic times). So far, as best as I can understand, the problem is triggered by putting the ProNutro in my breakfast bowl (I have tried multiple bowls and still have the same show-stopper). Once I have added the ProNutro I add the milk, but I can only estimate how much I need, based on how much ProNutro I have put in. I assume everything is alright, because the bowl holds the milk and powder correctly, there is no visible overflow.

Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 co-habiting on Ubuntu 8.04

brad's picture

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron). I was pleasantly surprised when Firefox 3 greeted me as the default browser, but then hit a few speed bumps. Being a web developer I constantly use tools like firebug and MeasureIt. Unfortunately, until Firefox 3 is widespread (and released), many extensions don't work (there are hacks, but they come with problems).

Rainy days and Mondays

Winter in Cape Town has arrived and although it may not be especially cold yet, it certainly is very rainy and windy. Fin and I have been exploring this new wet weather and even though he isn't into wearing his Wellington boots, he loves being bundled up, especially in his hat and scarf.

Dear Standard Bank, Internet banking division

brad's picture

Hi,

The improvements to internet banking have some bugs, it seems.

I have had the experience twice now during "once off payments" that I get an error of "Internet banking is currently unavailable" when I go through with a transaction. It seems to be related to sending payment confirmations. It is bad behaviour because the transaction goes through, but the user (me) does not get a valid indication the payment has succeeded until a notification (sms, or email) comes through, or manually checks if there is a mention on the account transacted from/to.
